The Positive Revolution Campaign

October 25, 2019

On the evening of October 17, 2019, protests began erupting nationwide in Lebanon as a result of poor economic conditions, the increase in taxes that were being created by the government, and a corrupt political system, among others. Some resources claim that the amount of protestors that took the streets of Lebanon peaked over 1.5 million per day. The protests show no clear sign of simmering down any time soon.

Presentail saw an opportunity to connect expats to Lebanon once again in a different way than usual. We launched “The Positive Revolution Campaign.” We created a page for expats and for anyone else who was interested to donate common supplies that protestors would be in need of, including water bottles, face masks, garbage bags to keep the protest areas clean, and more.

What was the outcome?

To date, your contributions have surpassed $500 worth of supplies! Without you, these contributions would not have been possible, and we would like to thank everyone who pitched in and helped. We have yet to see what changes these protests will bring about. Some people agree that the changes are already palpable, yet citizens will continue to revolt until their demands are met.

The heartwarming scene in this revolution is that these protestors took over the streets with only the Lebanese flag waving high in the air. There is hope that the Lebanese have united once and for all to fight for common demands. They have achieved so in the name of a common home – Lebanon. They have left their religious beliefs and political affiliations aside, and, regardless of where these protests take us, we have come a long way as a people.

In this revolution, we have seen people of all ages come together to fight for a better Lebanon. Plus, the protests have gone global in no time. It is estimated that over 10 million Lebanese people live abroad. In many ways, this revolution is for the Lebanese diaspora. Lebanese expats showed their support and held protests abroad in places like the US, the UK, France, Australia, Ghana, and more!

Some people voiced their concerns about our campaign.

As with other fundraising campaigns during the revolution, we were asked the common question: “Where are you getting your funding from?” We communicated to everyone about this campaign through various channels such as social media. All our funding came from you: The Lebanese expats and everyone interested in helping out the protestors. We are not politically affiliated with any party or leader, and we do not accept any funds from them. All proceeds went to the protestors fighting for our nation, and once again, we would like to thank you all for your unconditional help.

Update: THIS LINK NO LONGER EXISTS. Thank you for everyone who contributed. We raised over $500 with your help. View our social media post here.
