If you’re reading this I am confident that you have at least one member of your family or a friend that left Lebanon and currently lives somewhere in this world.
In fact, and looking at the figure published by Lebanon's government, the Lebanese diaspora is at 15.4 million. We can all agree that there is no area of this world that has been untouched by the Lebanese. Due to political and economic reasons mainly, Lebanese people were pushed to make their lives elsewhere, and unfortunately I am one of them.
Close to 4 years ago I decided to leave Lebanon and pursue my career in the United Arab Emirates. Throughout my life in Dubai, I tried as much as possible to go back home, especially on occasions like mother’s-day and my dad’s birthday. It truly meant to me to be there on these occasions and share these special moments with the dearest to my heart. However, showing up was not always easy, and sending gifts as a gesture of appreciation soon became my only alternative.
During my first year I used one available website that allowed me to make online payments and send flowers only. This seemed to be a good alternative until I realized that my parents and friends are confident of the gift they will receive on the next occasion, and to me this began to feel like a task rather than a thoughtful surprise.
My pursuit in finding alternatives failed; I remember on Mother’s Day, I had to go all the way to the mall to transfer money and pay to a shop in Lebanon that would deliver my gift. On my way back home, and out of frustration, Presentail was born… An idea that seemed so simple, yet never existed!
Fast forward to my trip to New York in October 2018, where I was catching up over coffee with Adnan, my co-founder, mentioning my frustration and the wish to start Presentail. Of course, living in New York for the past 4 years created a similar burden on Adnan.
It was really a matter of minutes that we decided to make this idea a reality and in one month, on the 1st of December 2018, Presentail came to life.
A lot of hard work and dedication were put to launch Presentail just before Christmas, enabling Lebanese expats to be one gift closer to home on that holiday.
With Presentail we really wanted to revamp the online gifting experience; with only few clicks. From wherever you were in the world, you were able to choose a gift from a wide selection, pay online hassle free and deliver a gift to your loved ones on the same day anywhere in Lebanon.
In the quest of creating Presentail, we really focused on helping the small and medium Lebanese businesses to have access to the online market enabling them to reach a new and wider customer base. Today, I am proud to have the same shop from where I bought my Mother’s Day gift join Presentail. Presentail has grown extremely since then, and today we’re proud to join flat6labs as one of the cycle 4 startups.
I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us, and if you’re interested in knowing our coming plans, watch out for our coming blog.
